Hello Dear Readers,

Firstly, Wishing you a very Happy New Year. Hope 2021 brings health, happiness and success to you and your family.

I took a little break from the blogosphere to finish the final draft of my next book. It was one of the many things that I had to finish before the end of 2020. If things go as planned you should be able to get a copy of the book by end of 2021 or early 2022 (Yes, Publishing takes a longer time than writing the book. Especially if you are publishing it traditionally).

A visit to my hometown, little celebrations with friends and family, a 100 km bike ride along the Western Ghats,  quality time with my nephew (Whom I had not met for over a year) and taking care of four little kittens that have recently moved into our backyard – This is how my new year started. Sharing a glimpse of my vacation below 🙂

So, what’s up with you guys? All set for a new beginning?

Every year, on New Year’s eve I make a list of five things I want to accomplish the coming year. A yearly bucket list of sorts. And more often than not I am able to strike every item on the list. Along with this, I make some easy resolutions that I try to keep (on and off) throughout the year.

This post is about five such easy resolutions that anybody can make irrespective of your commitment or confidence level. These are little steps that if followed till the end of the year can make big differences in your life.

I will get at least 7 hours of sleep every day

There is nothing that can heal your mind and body as sleep can. It is the most effortless way of relaxing and can do wonders to your attention span, concentration and focus. It is sad to see how many of us are sleep deprived by choice. Yes, by choice – binge-watching, late-night parties, unhealthy hours of work and the list goes on. This year, make it a point to reset your sleep pattern. Sleep and wake up at the same time every day. Get quality sleep for at least 7 hours and see the drastic healing that takes place in your mind and body.

I will exercise/walk for at least 30mins every day

It is a well-known fact that exercise releases feel-good hormones that instantly makes you feel good and confident about yourself. There are hundreds of health risks that we can prevent by exercising consistently every single day even if for only for 30 mins. It can do wonders to your body as well as your mind.

I will eat healthy wholesome food and I will eat them on time

I strongly believe one must be mindful of what they feed themselves with. We are what we eat.

Just eating healthy is not enough. Eating at unusual times with long gaps and skipping meals is of very little use to the body. In fact, there are nutritionists who believe that eating heavy meals after long gaps can damage your digestive system. Remember to drink at least 2 litres of water every day.

I will read at least 10 pages of a book every day

Reading does to the mind what exercise does to the body. It expands the mind and gives you ideas. It can keep the mind young, healthy and sharp. There are studies to prove that reading every day can help one to keep memory disorders at bay. Make it a habit to read every day even if only 10 pages. Pick a book that you enjoy reading. Make it a fun activity, not a punishment.

Remember there are no non-readers. If you don’t like reading, it is probably because you haven’t picked up the right book.

I will smile more often

This is my personal favourite. It is said that a child smiles at least 400 times a day! While we adults hardly smile 20 times. Isn’t that plain sad?

I’m sure there is no need for me to convince you why smiling is important. This year make it a habit to smile more often. Laugh if you can. Life is, after all, too short to hold onto that frown.

Remember, these 5 resolutions are easy to keep and easier to break. We must practice them mindfully every single day until it seeps into our subconscious and becomes a habit.

2021 is a special year in many ways. The previous year taught us many important life lessons to carry with us in 2021 – the beginning of a new year and a new decade.

That is all I had for this post. See you soon. 🙂

Love,

Ashwini
